PRESS RELEASE: Stunning guitarist Eduardo Niebla turns up the heat
“A display of supernatural talent….and a spellbinding mixture of flamenco and modern jazz, bursting with passion & verve.” (The Spectator)
What could be better to invigorate the soul than a brilliant live performance by the Spanish guitarist and composer Eduardo Niebla, who embarks on tour with his exhilarating mix of flamenco jazz fusion. This is really a shorthand to the wealth of influences that resonate from his guitar from his collaborations with musicians from around the globe, but one thing for sure is that it’s exquisite guitar playing of the highest level.
The tour starts at Span Arts Narberth (8th Sept) followed by Market Bosworth Festival (16th Sept) and the premiere of Eduardo’s composition “From Tree to Sea” celebrating Hull’s City of Culture and the East Riding which will be performed with musicians from the region at The East Riding Theatre Beverley (13th Oct) and Junction Goole (14th Oct). The tour continues at Battle Festival (17 Oct), National Centre for Early Music York (20 Oct), Musicport Whitby (22 Oct) 3 venues in rural Dorset (10-12 Nov) and ending at World Unlimited at Kingskerswell Church Devon (13th Nov). Accompanying Eduardo is guitarist Matthew Robinson / Daniel Martinez Lopez, Dharmesh Parmar (tabla) and Willemijn Steenbakkers (violin).
This tour gives Eduardo an opportunity to preview music from his highly anticipated new album, as well as “From Tree to Sea” and his back catalogue spanning four decades. All a far cry from his early childhood in Tangiers Morocco and Girona Spain where he grew up, the 7th of 11 children. And musically too Eduardo has always been moving on; starting out learning flamenco on the streets, then through his teenage years exploring jazz and symphonic rock where he hit stardom with his cult band Atila. And this curiosity to explore led to Eduardo’s move to London in the late 70s where he performed with Mother Gong at Glastonbury and worked with Tom Newman producer. Since then he has collaborated with musicians across the globe including: sitar maestro Nishat Khan, the late Lol Coxhill (sax), Palestinian oud player Adel Salameh, trance phenomenon Juno Reactor and pop musicians George Michael & Craig David.
And latterly Eduardo has been working with the Dante and Pavao String Quartets and local choirs on works with a distinctly classical vibe so the creativity continues.
In this world of changing times the power of music to connect is a wonderful thing so catch Eduardo Niebla in concert and expect to be moved.
