About The Event

A musical by Martin Dimery in collaboration with composer David Hynds.

Kairos Theatre Company presents a play which opens at Bosworth Field, the night before the battle. Following the legend that Richard was visited by visions in the night, ghostly figures emerge as reminders of his rise to power, and the price he has paid for the monarchy. Narrated by the ghost of Henry VI, we witness Richard's love for, and conquest of Anne Neville, his dispute with the Woodville family, and the motivation for seizing the crown after his brother Edward the IV dies. This is not, however, a Ricardian tract, exonerating Richard from the blame for usurping the crown and the subsequent fate of the th Princes in the Tower. Rather, the story shows how his more worthy nature is overcome by the need for self-preservation and how he reacts to the plots that emerge against him. He suffers the tragedy of losing both his son and heir and his wife in the course of his short reign before facing his fate, at the end of the musical, at Bosworth Field.
